Canada's own Gilles Villeneuve took the checkered flag at
the first FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA in Montreal in 1978.
The legendary driver was killed in a tragic accident during qualifications for
the Belgian Grand Prix in May, 1982.
The Montréal track was renamed Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in his honour.
