Step into the world of ceramic artistry, where history, creativity, and craftsmanship converge in this captivating pair of vases. These vessels, hailing from two different origins and eras, invite you on a journey through the evolution of ceramic design. While they may come from different corners of Europe and represent different periods in time, together, they form a harmonious duo that beautifully encapsulates the artistic spirit of their makers.

Vase 1 - Vintage Bertoncello Ceramiche D'Arte Vase by Roberto Rigon:

This vintage Bertoncello vase, designed by Roberto Rigon, is a remarkable piece of Italian ceramic artistry from the 1970s. The distinctive sculptural twisted form, resembling a knot or loop, is a testament to Rigon's creative prowess. The rectangular opening at the top end adds a unique touch to its design. The vase is glazed in the recognizable 'Screziato Havana' style, characterized by beige tones with reddy/brown speckled accents, making it a true statement piece for any collector or interior decorator.

Bertoncello Ceramiche D'Arte, founded in Schiavon, Italy in 1956, was a hub for modern ceramic design. Giovanni Bertoncello, along with his brother Felice and other collaborators, played a pivotal role in shaping the company's artistic direction. The 'Screziato' glaze, known for its speckled and dappled appearance, became iconic. Unfortunately, much of the company's history was lost when it closed in 1999, making these vintage pieces even more valuable.

Roberto Rigon's journey into ceramic artistry is equally fascinating. His early education and collaborations with other ceramics companies, including Bertoncello, paved the way for his distinctive style characterized by geometric lines and a mastery of glazes. His ceramics, including this vase, stand as testament to his dedication to representing universal concepts through art.

Measurements:

22cm+/- tall x 24cm+/- wide x 7.5cm deep = approx 8.5" x 9.5" x 3"

Rectangular top opening: 3.5cm x 1.8cm

Condition: in very good vintage condition, with minor traces of time and usage. Please note there's a small point at one corner on the top that has a chip (see close up photo)

Vase 2 - East German Pottery by Steingutfabrik Elsterwerda:

The Elsterwerda 1362/9 East German pottery vase is a piece of ceramic history with roots dating back to the early 20th century. It is difficult to say if it was produced as early as during the 20s-30s, as the uranium glaze suggests, or during the 50s.

Founded officially in 1900, Steingutfabrik Elsterwerda GmbH quickly became known for its diverse range of ceramic products, including coffee, tea, and mocha sets, as well as various tableware and decorative items.

The vase in question, with a height of 21 cm and a diameter of 17 cm, exemplifies the company's craftsmanship. Its design and decoration techniques, such as Spritzdekor, Unter- and Mattglasur (underglaze and matte glaze), and relief work, showcase the technical skill and artistic sensibility of the makers.

This piece provides a glimpse into the rich tradition of East German pottery, and its historical significance makes it a valuable addition to any collection. The fact that it has survived through the decades with only minor signs of wear adds to its appeal as a vintage collectible.

Condition: Very good vintage condition with patina and reasonable traces of time consistent with normal use.

In conclusion, both vases offer not only aesthetic beauty but also a connection to the history of ceramic art in their respective regions and eras. Collectors and enthusiasts will appreciate the unique stories and craftsmanship behind these pieces.
