System is running a licensed copy of WHS11. Includes OS & Client Restore Disk & Stablebit Drive Pool. Both activation keys are included. Plays nice with w10 & w11 clients without grief. WHSv1 disks can be included if requested.

If you are viewing this listing, you probably already know that the Intel powered HP ex490 / ex495 / x510 is the best of the MediaSmart home server line. They remain more than capable of handling most any of today's home server tasks, especially after upgrading. This particular unit is the victim of a full modernization upgrade, including a 960 Gb Micron SSD OS Drive & three (3 Gb) Seagate HDD’s totaling just under 10Tb of storage. All upgrade highlights are below.

Nothing has been overlooked on this upgrade. A quad core Q8200s was chosen for the best balance between speed & operating temperature under load. All hardware drivers & the WHS11 OS are fully updated. Stablebit Drive Pool is also installed & activated.

Installed Hardware Upgrades:

1)      External VGA connector included

2)      Upgraded from Intel Celeron 450 to Intel Yorkdale Core 2 Quad Q8200s @ 2.33GHz

3)      Upgraded thermal paste on CPU & Northbridge with Prolamatech thermal compound

4)      Upgraded PC2-6400 RAM from 2Gb to 4Gb

5)      OS now lives on a 980 Gb Micron MTFDDAK960TD 5200 SSD

6)      Additional storage is now three 3Tb Seagate Barracuda’s ST3000DM001

7)     The aged HP power supply has been upgraded with a new 350w KDM Power PSU

8)      The aged HP 80mm bushed case fans have been replaced with Noctua NF-A8 PWF Hydrostatic Bearing fans

9)      The passive CPU heatsink cooling is upgraded using two Evercool 30mm CPU fans

10)   Added additional Southbridge heatsink

11)   Replaced 1.5v BIOS coin battery

12)   Rear case cover has been modified to improve exit air flow (unmodified cover is available if preferred)

13)   Case has been modified for easy VGA plug access (an unmodified case is available if preferred)

Installed BIOS & Driver Upgrades (all hardware / driver ID’s cross referenced & matched):

1)      BIOS fan slope modified to lower idle & heavy load operation temps.

2)      Replaced obsolete Intel Matrix Storage Manager (MSM) with newest compatible Intel ICH9R RST Storage Controller

3)      Replaced default Microsoft chipset driver with newest compatible Intel G33 Express Northbridge Chipset Driver 

4)      Replaced default Microsoft Network Controller with newest compatible Realtek PCIe GBE Network Controller Driver

5)      Installed newest compatible SIL 3531 SATA Controller

6)      All updated driver files copied to OS drive desktop for buyer’s external backup

Installed Software, Hotfixes, Roll-Ups, Add-Ins, and Upgrades:

1)      Installed, activated, and pooled all drives with Stablebit Drive Pool v2.3.2.1493 (activation key included)

2)      Installed & activated WHS11 (Vail) w/SP1 (activation key included)

3)      Installed all remaining s2k8r2 updates using WSUS off line update v11.9.1 for WHS11 as follows:

a)      Installed s2k8r2 Enterprise Hotfix Rollups (90 Hotfixes)

b)      Installed s2k8r2 Convenience Rollup (126 Updates)

c)       Installed all s2k8r2 updates pushed after Convenience Rollup (212 Updates)

d)      Installed WHS11 UR4 Rollup containing all WHS11 home server overlay updates

e)      Installed WHS11 UEFI/GTP Hotfix feature pack

4)      Installed Speccy Hardware Monitor v1.32

5)      Installed MSS add-in Lights Management software v1.0.6

6)      Installed MSS add-in Advanced Admin Console for WHS11

7)      All MS WHS11 OS update files including WSUS/WHS11 Off-Line Updater & Add-Ins are copied to the OS drive desktop for buyer’s external backup

 

·        This quad core setup provides an average idle temp of 43c and a full load Prime 95 torture test temp remains under 70c after a 10 minute run.  The cpu is back to idle temp in 6 min after the torture test.

·         File copy speed for 8gb averaged 97.4 MB/s

·         Run time on install is 4 days 16 hours per SSD life.
