Clever 1924 Harrisburg Pennsylvania Aesop’s Fables Local Advertising Book.

DISCUSSION:

So this is clever- J.C. Funk, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, did some quick re-writing of some of Aesop’s more popular fables, got them illustrated by Walt Huber, and then for each one took the lesson or adage, applied it to modern (1920s) life, and sold local businesses the opportunity to have the explanatory text tie them together. The parable of the Fox and the Mask, for instance, may teach us that “outside show is a poor substitute for inner worth”, and yet, J.C. Funk wishes to point out, the modern man of business also needs a well-tailored suit to really go places. And oh, by the way, “the best suits are to be obtained at Joseph Freedman’s at the Penn-Harris Hotel Building, where you pay less for the best suits made”. See how that works?
