Description

Offered  is a  glass prism tile.  "Atomic floral" for Luxfer Prism Co.  About 1895-7.  Tile has the sharp light directing, zigzag pattern on one side.  Condition is very good. One corner chip and a little  roughness on edges.  Nice light purple coloring from exposer to light.  Tiles measure 4"X4"
There are no traces of grout on tiles.  Frank Lloyd Wright designed many glass tile patterns but only the  design no. 27,977 was produced by Luxfer . These tiles were salvaged from a local old town building that burned down.  I cleaned soot from most of the tiles.

A little history of prism tiles;
During the late 1800’s and early 1900”, when electric lighting was
still under development, Luxfer Prism Company manufactured
glass prism tiles that were designed to install above the front
entrance and windows of stores to brighten the interior of
storefronts by bending the sunlight to fall on the walls and
ceilings instead of the floors near the windows. Over many years
of exsposer to sun light the tiles turned a light purple.
