4 by 6 by 2” thick in marbleized light brown embossed leather hard cover, gilded title on the ribbed spine face, richly gilded page block and decorative gold and green floral motif end papers front and back inside covers, one multi-color silk marker ribbon, 1152 pages, including Table of Contents in the back of the book, one tissue protected engraving of the Madonna and Child as frontispiece and one other full page tissue protected engraving of Our Lady of Consolation.
It is one of the most beautiful and well preserved antique prayer books in our store at the present time; the text is completely in French and is composed five books including Thomas A Kempis' Imitation of Christ, as well as Meditations and Sermons by the French prelate M. L'abbe J.T. Desbos.
The book is graded in Near MINT condition. It was signed in delicate pen script and dated 1923 on the second page fly leaf, but laid away in a box for probably decades and never circulated- so it is in pristine, almost perfect condition. Two hand made cards, one a crochet and paper holy card with hand painted image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the other, a small bookmark with pink silk and hand painted rose motif, were found within the pages of the prayer book and are included with its purchase.
