GENE WILDER AS "THE FOX" IN THE 1974 STANLEY DONEN FILM "THE LITTLE PRINCE," Issued to newspapers and magazines to publicize the forthcoming release; 8 x 10-inch standard B & W glossy studio publicity photo with identifying text at the bottom white edge; near-excellent overall condition (it's excellent at the front, which is what counts, and there are a couple of minor defects at the back - a small circled number 3 in pencil near the upper edge, and a soft yellow splotch near the center of the lower edge, which has no impact at all on the corresponding area of the photo).

Antoine de Saint-Exupery was a well-known aviator and author in his native France who managed to emigrate to the U.S. in 1940 after the Germans defeated the French Army and occupied the country. He wrote THE LITTLE PRINCE while living in Manhattan, and later returned to Europe to fly reconnaissance missions for the Allies. The book was first published in the U.S. in English and French in Aril 1943. Tragically he was killed before the war ended, and his most famous book (which still sells almost 2 million copies a year) was published posthumously in France in 1945. The 1974 film was directed by Stanley Donen (1924-2019), best known for his great musicals - ON THE TOWN, ROYAL WEDDING, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER, KISMET and FUNNY FACE, It starred Richard Kiley (Tony Award winner for MAN OF LA MANCHA) as the pilot stranded in the desert and newcomer Steven Warner as the Little Prince, a child aristocrat from a distant planet. Several other actors had small featured roles, including Gene Wilder as The Fox and Bob Fosse as The Snake. It's a marvelous film. The songs were by Fredrick Lowe (music) and Alan Jay Lerner (lyrics, who also wrote the screenplay). They earned 2 Oscar nominations.

There are only 2 other 1974 B&W publicity photos on eBay. Neither is a match for mine. The cheaper one lacks the info at the bottom edge proving it's a 1974 Paramount photo. It's worn and rated good for $3.30 + $5.75 shipping. The other one has the Paramount date and text at the bottom, looks to be as nice as mine, and is $19.99 + $4.99 shipping,

My Buy-It-Now price of $14.00 includes shipping with stiff cardboard backing in a padded envelope via media mail, which takes around 7 days with tracking, less in California.
