Georges Rouget, born August 26, 1783 in Paris and died April 9, 1869 in the same city, was a neoclassical French painter. A pupil of David, after studying at the School of Fine Arts, he entered his studio in 1797 and very quickly became his favorite disciple. Rouget began his professional career as his master's principal assistant until his exile in Brussels. Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1803 he failed three times without winning the first Grand Prix. He will spend his entire career producing paintings for the different regimes he serves, recounting the great moments in the history of France. Several of his paintings adorn the historical museum of the Palace of Versailles inaugurated by Louis-Philippe in 1837.
