Toni Owen was one of the best known designers of American sportswear in the 40s and 50s. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Owen taught for 2 years before moving to Orange, New York to become manager of a clothing shop there. Not satisfied with the sportswear on offer, she began to design separates and her career as a fashion designer began.

Our original 1950s Toni Owen full circle black taffeta skirt is best for sizes XXS/XS. The waistband is a tiny 24”. The diameter of the circle is 62”, which makes it 31” long. Still has the Toni Owen tag along with the name tag of the original owner. At one point a patch of felt with a handmade poodle consisting of clay and beads was appliquéd to the skirt. That patch in itself looks vintage, the poodle has become brittle and there is some breakage. It is easily removable but will leave pin holes. Aside from this, the skirt is in very good vintage condition with light age and use appropriate wear. No rips, holes or musty odors. It will need to be cleaned and the zipper, while functional may need to be replaced.

Please see photos for details and feel free to ask questions. Please note, the skirt is darker than it appears in the photos.
