EDELMANN YEAR 1897

Edelmann typewriter, manufactured around 1897, by Wernicke, Edelmann & Co, Berlin, Germany.

The Edelmann is an index typewriter (without a keyboard), it has a plate where the different characters are drawn and a rod that is turned to one side or the other to choose the desired one. As we move the rod, the type wheel (same as the Blick models) is positioned in the center to print on the paper. By pressing the rod down the character is printed on the paper. It does not have an ink reel, but rather a pad inks the characters each time it is written. It has three keys, two are to choose one of the three different lines of type that the type wheel has and another is space.

It is a very rare machine and very difficult to find in this state of conservation. It is in excellent condition and works, although it should be greased and the type wheel sometimes gets stuck on the carriage and has to be lifted by hand. It gives the impression that the machine has been restored, disassembled, polished and cleaned. Perhaps, the golden lines that decorate its perimeter are new, although it is difficult to be sure, it is very well done. Without a doubt a beautiful typewriter in impeccable condition for a great collector of antique typewriters.
