 After graduating from high school, Gordon joined the Army and completed pilot training in Texas and was stationed in Glatton, England with the 8th Air Force. He flew B-17s and completed 14 missions over Germany. He remained in the Air Force after the war flying many aircraft including the B-47 and the KC-135 tanker. He helped establish the SAC Command Center at Wright-Patt in the late 50's and served 100s of hours on active alert there. After retiring from active duty, he continued his career in civil service as an analyst at the Foreign Technology Division. He retired from FTD in 1986, but continued his lifelong service to the Air Force as a volunteer at the National Museum of the Air Force.
