This is a classic mid-19th century Shovel or Spade of an unusually small size.  It measures just 32" long making it very short to be used in a normal fashion by an adult. Not sure if it was made for use by a child or just for "close-quarters" work in a confined space.  Maybe used to feed a steam boiler?  The shaft and handle are a single piece of hand-carved wood that waas steam-bent to a sharp curve where it joins the blade.  The hand grip is reinforced with a steel rod going through.  Hand-forged iron blade and reinforcing socket/gussets on both sides.  It is stamped: D. PR------T.  over STEEL.  In As Found condition with some cracking in the wood from drying out but is still usable.   Nice visual appeal in a great old antique tool.  Guaranteed to please the new owner or I'll buy it back.  Check my Feedback.
