Large 19th century English Bone Playing chess set and games board circa 1860. 

The turned and carved chess pieces with incised leaf decoration, a popular Barleycorn design pre-Staunton style. One side stained black and the other side polished and natural. King height is 4.4 inches, complete 32 and for age and use in good condition

The rosewood and sycamore inlaid game box with rosewood frame shows a chess board on the outside and inlaid backgammon interior.

Chess side with alternate playing squares in rosewood and sycamore. The interior backgammon shows inlaid points using boxwood and bone and intricate diamond pattern inlays. The game box is large and with considerable weight, measures 24x24 inches.

The board/box was manufactured in India under British supervision and exported to England. The game box shows wear and use.

Together with a set of antique period turned bone backgammon and draughts pieces, 15 black and 15 natural.
