Welcome to my eBay Auctions !

THIS IS A SCARCE BRONZE ANCIENT COIN.

PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT

ROMAN RULE OF CYPRUS

 Circa middle 1st Century BC

Bronze Æ Obol unit

CYPRUS, Paphos. Roman Rule

 Mid 1st century BC.

Bronze Æ (18 mm, 3.37 g, 12h)

Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right / Zeus Salaminios(?) standing left, holding scepter and grain ears. Zapiti & Michaelidou 69 (Cleopatra VII?); Nicolaou Paphos II 469-509; Cox Curium 128; BMC Pl. LXXXI, 2. VF, dark green and brown patina, some roughness.

This particular specimen is important because the tenon cuts are quite visible on one side of this coin.

According to Cathy Lorber: “This variety seems more likely to belong to the interlude of Roman rule of Cyprus after the suicide of Ptolemy of Cyprus. That would explain the lack of a legend naming a Ptolemaic king.”
