L. principis is a unique and a single stemmed plant, with several densely packed, long tubercles and 3-5 radials, white to brownish, papery and long, with a single central spine of which the middle one is flat. It has flowers nearly yellow or shiny yellow, up to 3 inch in diameter. Originally from single location near Hidalgo, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
