PRIVATE EYE 1964 24 July No 68 Ronald and Reginald Kray Twins Peer & Gangster

PRIVATE EYE 1964 Friday 24th July - No 68

Private Eye from July 1964 with 16 pages, filled with satirical articles on news, politics and current affairs.

The front cover features George Brown, Harold Wilson, Alec Douglas Home and a mystery man (sorry, my knowledge of 1964 politicians isn’t too good).

There’s a full page naming the Kray Twins - Ronald and Reginald Kray being named as the gangsters in a police investigation in an alleged homosexual relationship with a prominent peer. Remember, of course, homosexuality was still illegal in the UK at this time. Esmeralda’s Barn nightclub is mentioned in the article.

The headline is “The Peer and the Gangster” Douglas Home is saying: “It can’t be us - I’m not a peer anymore”.

There’s a quarter page advert for the 4th National Jazz and Blues Festival - Richmond, headlining the Rolling Stones.

A quarter page Ralph Steadman cartoon.

A wonderful collection of Limericks on the theme of: There Was An Old Man of Geneva

ConditionGood - the magazine is in good vintage condition, it has been read showing light reading wear and minor creasing to the covers and internal pages. Given that the magazine is approaching its 60th birthday, its condition is very good, but not perfect!  The picture below is the actual magazine you will receive.

I accept returns.  Finally - any questions or if you'd like further pictures, just ask!
