This is an extremely fine World War II M1 steel helmet with 1st type Hawley liner that remains in near mint condition. The steel shell is with a front seam and fixed bales. It has an OD #7 green aggregate anti-glare finish and is without dents or damage. The heat temper number stamped on the underside of the brim is ‘273B’. The chinstraps are without fraying at the bales and are with the black finished, bronze “J” hook and fastening buckle at the ends. The 1st type Hawley liner is with the light gray rayon suspension system and snap in rayon sweatband. The leather on the forward part of the sweatband exhibits light use and remains soft and. The gray rayon nap strap at the rear is present but the leather chinstrap is not. There is no damage, wear, or cracks to the rim and no dents or stains to the body. There are two minor cracks at the right rear of the body that can be seen on the interior but not on the exterior. The exterior of the liner is flawless. This is an extremely fine early M1 helmet with early 1st type liner that remains in excellent to near mint condition. A real gem and very tough to find.
