Karel Patrick Jan Maria Dessain, also Charles Dessain, (15 August 1871 in Mechelen – 5 September 1944) was a Belgian politician for the Catholic Party and later the Catholic Association of Belgium.

Karel Dessain was born in Mechelen on August 15, 1871. He was the son of a printer-publisher from Liège who had settled in Mechelen. In 1910, father Pierre was ennobled by King Albert I. Charles also received a noble title. From 1922 he could call himself a knight. He followed in his father's footsteps in other respects. Like Pierre, he became involved in politics. In 1903 Karel Mechels became a municipal councilor. Six years later, on November 6, he became mayor of Mechelen. He would remain so until his death.
His mayoralty was marked by both world wars. During the First World War, he even ended up in a German prison camp because of his resistance. On his return he was given a hero's welcome. In 1941 the Germans forced him to resign. Camiel Baeck became his replacement. The latter disappeared overnight when the Germans were expelled on September 4, 1944. Dessain immediately resumed office. Barely one day later he died of a stroke in his office at city hall.
