The double curved bow at the bow and enlarged flare improve sea-survival performance, and all launch tubes are equipped with reserve torpedoes. Many improvements have been made, including expanding the fixed side plates of the bridge, adding shields to the launch tubes, extending the tops of the front and rear chimneys, and equipping them with caps. However, these improvements led to an increase in the overall displacement of the ship, raising the center of gravity, which reduced the ship's speed.
Furthermore, due to the occurrence of the Tomozuru Incident and the 4th Fleet Incident, performance improvement work was carried out.
Efforts were made to reduce the weight by changing the shape of the bulwark on the bridge, shortening the short boat decks on both sides of the bridge, and removing the 6m boat passage on the starboard side, but at the same time, a search room was added and anti-aircraft weapons were strengthened. As a result, there was no dramatic weight reduction.
Yayoi was completed on August 28, 1920 as the third Mutsuki-class ship.
At the beginning of the war, as a ship of the 4th Fleet, 6th Torpedo Squadron, and 30th Destroyer Squadron, she was active in the capture of Wake Island, Rabaul, Bougainville Island, etc., but on September 11, 1945, off the coast of New Guinea, It was attacked by US military aircraft and sunk.
The kit reproduces the 1941 appearance, with the torpedo tube equipped with a mantlet.
One special submarine target is also included.
