Brass key used for watchman timekeeping

​Keys were located on brass chains around sites and the watchman was required to visit each site and insert the key in to a portable clock to record the numbered location and time of visit on a paper roll

This is a single key numbered ' 1 ' on the bit

​With the original piece of brass chain

General usage wear, knocks, marks & tarnishing

Approximately:
59mm (just over 2¼") in length key
28cm length of chain
26g combined weight
