SCHIZOLITE on CALCITE: Wessels Mine, Hotazel, Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape, South Africa. Dimensions: 2.9 x 2.8 x 2.0cm, thumbnail. This matrix specimen features intergrown, translucent, disc-shaped crystals of pastel pink Schizolite to 4mm across sitting on and intergrown with snow-white Calcite for great contrast. There are also some tiny black spots around the piece that have been identified in other specimens from this discovery as Aegirine. This was mined in the second pocket of late 2013. From MINDAT: In the early 2000s, the first specimens from the Wessels Mine were initially thought to be Bustamite and later approved by IMA as a new species, "Marshallsussmanite" (Origlieri, et. al., 2013). Further analysis resulted in it to be Schizolite so the name on this material was reverted from "Marshallsussmanite" to Schizolite within the April-May 2018 CNMNC newsletter. Ex.
