Roman Republic Denarius Mn. Cordius Rufus 46BC NGC Graded Choice VF

Roman Republic denarius Mn. Cordius Rufus struck at Rome 46 BC. Graded Choice Very Fine by NGC. The strike is off centre on the flan producing some weakness to the obverse where RVFS would be and giving an irregular though not unattractive shape to the coin. The reverse is particularly strong and the coin has an attractive tone. The SC indicates this coin was struck by special authority of the senate. The most likely reason being to cope with extraordinary demand for coinage to pay for Caesar’s quadruple triumph. A coin with a striking design struck during a pivotal period in Rome’s history.
