Ernest Meissonier, born in Lyon on February 21, 1815 and died in Paris on January 31, 1891, is a French painter and sculptor, specializing in military historical painting and genre scenes. Painter very concerned with authentic detail, he is part of the movement of historical realism, which appears in the visual arts under the Second Empire. Covered with honors, he sits at the Academy of Fine Arts and chairs many national and international juries. Favorite painter of Marcel Proust and Robert-Louis Stevenson, much appreciated by Eugène Delacroix and Vincent van Gogh.
Charles Courtry is a French engraver and illustrator. The Bénézit Dictionary presents him as "one of the best etcher of the 19th century".
