1954 Herman Miller Eames Wire Shell Chair X Base DKX-1 All Original Redwood Ave
Listed for sale is a super rare and original Eames for Herman Miller 1954 DKX chair with wire top, upholstered pad, and early X base. 

This piece can be dated due to the use of this base typology, as the X base was only used during the earlier production. The X base was replaced with a more commonly used H base in 1955. 

The example for sale has a lovely patina with some wear and signs of use. It is a completely original example, which is untouched. 

This chair's original upholstered pad is generally in very nice condition, though does have a crack in the naugahyde, as shown in the photos. I would keep this as/is, considering that the pad is so original and because there is no break in the material itself. 

There is a break in the wire within the framework, which doesn't seem to affect the chair structurally. See photos.

The buyer may pick up the chair, have the chair shipped by me (buyer will pay for full shipping cost, though will not have to arrange it), or discuss potential delivery within reason following the end of the auction.
