Antique wooden Philippine Santo Statues are hand carved and polychromed "Saint" figures made for Christian Altars. Carved by Spanish/colonists in the Philippines 17th to 19th century.

For sale from my personal collection.  I have no provenance.  However,  our father while stationed in Manila, Philippines as a diplomat in early 1960's purchased this Santo Altar carving.

These sculptures are today recognized as folk art objects,  but at the time they were made,  viewers interacted with the sculptures as if they were alive.

This carving is a nice quality piece.  Overall wear is commensurate with age. Condition is fair on main figure with minor damage to wood and the entire polychromed surface having many chips, cracks, and much fading. This is an old piece. Wear is consistent with age and use. Has nicely aged heavily worn patina over whole Sculpture.  Has both arms and hands. Fingers have age and weather wear at tips.

Sculpture figure is slightly wobbly onto base. It has both feet. Figure was made separate to base and is attached to the base by two original small wooden pegs set behind the feet. The base has several splits, cracks, and chips, although still solid and strong.

Sculpture has an old worn sellers label on its back at base. Difficult to read,  might say "St Vincent " although it looks to me that this sculpture is in the style of "Standing Madonna " .

Unique piece and beautiful overall.
