This brilliantly colored and fun animal motif folk art fabric piece is a very sweet piece. It is Vintage to the 1980's,  purchased as a new piece and was immediately put into secure storage.  It has not been used, put on display or exposed to light. A delightful piece to hang in a child's room, with its 47 different critters that are beautifully embroidered in silk on silk. With its deep burgundy red silk background,  the well defined animal motifs pop off the Tapestry.

Hand Sewn, loomed and embroidered in Northern Lao using designs and motifs and using intricate embroidery work they tell a history of family, village and culture.

Their use of supplementary weft weaving is considered by collectors and connoisseurs to be amongst the finest of textiles.  The colors are created using natural and organic dyes.  They are truly art pieces.  Use as wall hangings or table top runners.  Their complex patterns, geometric designs,  intricate embroidery,  weft weave and superb use of colors defines each piece as individualistic.

This is in very good condition,  with hand Sewn hemmed ends, nice end panels, no tears, no holes, stains , color runs or thread loss. The odd thread flare/pull is common with the embroidered motifs.

Likely this piece was produced on or under a bamboo stilt house in a tiny,  remote hilltop village,  using a simple standing or back-stop loom,  no electricity.  The "patterns " only in their minds.  Although this piece is superb the overall condition of the piece must be considered by buyers as imperfect.

For sale from my private collection.  I lived in Northern Lao late 1980's.  I fell in love with the people, culture and fabric.  While viewing hundreds of beautiful pieces I purchased a few dozen of the absolute finest.

Please review all pictures carefully.  Colors may differ slightly upon viewing in person due to camera or other screen contrast.  The beautiful shine/sheen of silk is more radiant in person.
