David C. Rockola -
In 1927 he started the Rock-Ola Scale Company and later changed the name to Rock-Ola Manufacturing Company to manufacture slot machines, scales, and pinball machines. In 1934 he surprised the world when he vaulted into the jukebox industry. Rock-Ola sold more than 400,000 jukeboxes under the Rock-Ola brand name, which predated the rock and roll era by two decades, and is thought to have inspired the term. Rock-Ola became a prime contractor for production of the M1 Carbine for the US Military during World War II. Mr Rockola received a Presidential Citation for his contributions in manufacturing M1 Carbines during WWII.
