VINTAGE 1930/40s Hand Carved Wooden Doll German or Swiss.

Extremely rare! This doll was a gift to its owner in the early 1940’s from Germany, but based on style could possibly be from Switzerland. We were unable to determine the exact region in our research. Possibly linden wood - and could be a Swiss Brienzer (Brienz) doll but we are not sure.

This doll is made of multiple solid wood pieces - one for head, one for body, and one for each arm and leg (6 pieces), attached with nails and leather. The doll has carved short hair with a carved bun on top. Face is hand painted, with some wear. Brownish eyes, red lips, pink cheeks. Face, arms and legs are all original paint. Small chip, very flat, along the hairline on the doll's right side. Also a small blemish/very light chip on the doll’s left cheek. Additional mild wear along the top of the head, possibly a crack but hard to discern (see photos).

The body is not painted, the head is attached at the neck and does not move (believed to be glued). The doll’s right arm is attached at the joint with original leather. The left arm is detached but original leather is still on the body. Both legs are detached but in good condition for their age. Legs and arms are painted. Both feet are nailed in and can turn 360 degrees. There is wear on the doll with some minor cracks but no major damage noticeable on the body. Wood is in very good condition for its age - normal wear and discoloration. We did our best to note any issues we could identify.

Original dress also included, but has major damage.
