SOLID CAST STEEL

Wood handle likely is hickory


MAKERS MARKSstamped into head , a bit worn away but logo is an anchor with words “solid cast steel” and it would have said at top of anchor Fayette R. Plumb, the middle we the anchor you can see FRP. Also stamped 12lbs in head


You had to be very strong to use this tool, it’s a beast!!


I think this could also be a stone splitting hammer


I live on the location of an old coal mine which makes since that this tool was used to split large rocks!!


I found it in the woods over the mine area, it was in need of restoration! I restore fine antiques & this tool is a great piece of history found in LaSalle County Illinois which was the heart of coal mining at the turn of the 19th century
