Here is a rare hand carved wooden pine box made in the form of a coffin. Perhaps it was intended as a snuff box, needle or match case. The age og this piece is unknown, but the detailed work on the hinge seems to me, to indicate some age.

Now, inside, there is a skeleton made from a modern material and with a turquoise colured bead head ! (see photographs one and two).

The lid is hinged and the hinge remains strong. There is a painted transfer image of what looks like a sunflower and a small area which appears as though a scroll was once also on the outer lid, now gone. There is nicely detail engraving to the closure clasp at the foot of the box (see photograph four).

I think that the wood used was most likely pine, with a dark stain applied. It is a well-made item and very likely dates from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.

The item remains in good order. There is one area on the left hand side of the outer lid where there seems to be a 2 inch long piece of missing wood - but this does not look like recent damage since the colour of the wood is consistent.

The piece is about 5.5 inches 14 cm) in length, and about 1.8 inches (4.4 cm) across the widest point (shoulders).

An interesting piece for any collector of macabre or gothic style pieces.

 SALES INFORMATION

We often photograph our items in an appropriate setting to give more of an idea of how they might look when displayed. PAYMENT: Paypal for overseas bidders please. UK bidders also may use a cheque drawn on a UK bank or send a postal order. Please send payment within seven days of auction or listing end, or if you are likely to be away etc. please contact me to let me know. PLEASE NOTE: Due to an increase in unpaid items, an E-Bay unpaid item case will be opened if payment is not received, or contact made, within a maximum of two weeks from date of purchase.

POSTAGE: Our postage charges are estimated to the best of our ability before the item is packed for shipping, based on actual Royal Mail price charts. Therefore, if the actual shipping charge should prove to be significantly less, we will refund the difference in postage back to you via Paypal. We always use Signed For or Insured services (unless you choose otherwise on smaller value items). Although these do cost a little more, they offer better service and protection for items, so are worth the extra cost in case of any problems.

I will combine postage for multiple items, provided they can be safely packed together.

The Worldwide postage quoted applies to most destinations, however, European countries are often cheaper, so please ask for the postage cost to your European destination if you want further clarification.

NON UK BIDDERS: In theory we are happy to ship most items overseas, but those which are large and/or heavy can be very expensive via UK shipping channels. If you wish to bid from overseas and do not see a postage price for your destination in the listing, please contact us and we will send a shipping estimate. Items are priced for postage by Volumetric Weight: height x width x length.

Please also note that your local customs office may levy an import duty, which you will need to pay to receive your item.

CONDITION: We try to describe any specific flaws accurately, but as all the items we sell are antique or vintage, they will show some signs of wear and tear.

DESCRIPTION: We try to describe all items accurately and measurements as closely as possible. If you do need more information then please contact us via the E-Bay “Contact Seller” page and we will reply as quickly as possible.

RETURNS: If you have any problems or concerns once you have received your item, please also contact us and, again, we will respond as quickly as we can.

We want all bidders to be happy with their items and comply with the distance selling regulations. Equally, if the item is not as described, or arrives damaged, please contact us.

In the (fortunately) rare event that an item arrives damaged: With claims for damaged items, the carrier will want to see evidence of damage, so please keep all packaging and the item itself. Please take photographs of these if at all possible, as these will aid a claim.

However, we are a small business and returns do cost us money. If you request to return an item for other than the reasons above, we may ask you to pay the return postage charges.

We try to use recycled but quality packaging wherever possible, in order to help reduce waste and to keep costs to you down.
