This is a fine Civil War ‘US’ oval belt buckle that is in excellent, non-dug condition. The face of this buckle is with no major edge dings, and only a few light scratches from actual field use. The reverse has the ‘puppy paw’ belt hooks all of which are solid and without damage. It retains the full lead filler on the back side which is boldly stamped by the maker, ‘W.H. SMITH, BROOKLYN’, and features a nice curve to the body. The brass is with a very attractive, mellow, and even age toned patina. A desirable example of the iconic Civil War U.S. oval belt buckle that remains in excellent, undamaged condition.
