Up for sale is a 2009 AUSTRALIA Cooks’ Cottage 1oz Silver Proof Dollar Coin.  This is a beautiful coin that will make a great addition to any collection.  The coin is legal tender in the Cook Islands and was stuck by the Perth Mint in Australia with .999 pure silver in proof quality.  The coin has an Anniversary Reverse Design depicting a colored impression of Cook the explorer in front of the historic family cottage.  The reverse also contains the words COOKS’ COTTAGE 75^TH ANNIVERSARY 1934 – 2009.  The obverse side of the coin depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  

This delightful square-shaped commemorative marks the 75^th anniversary of the relocation of Cooks’ Cottage from Yorkshire, England, to Melbourne’s Fitzroy Gardens.  Completed in 1755 in the village of Great Ayton, the cottage was built for James and Grace Cook whose famous son, James, charted Australia’s eastern coastline prior to colonization in 1788.  Cook’s first sighting of Australia was Point Hicks in what is now south-eastern Victoria.  So when the cottage was advertised for sale in 1933, the purchase was deemed an appropriate way of celebrating Victoria’s centenary.  Meticulously dismantled brick by brick and shipped to Australia for reconstruction, the cottage is regarded as Australia’s oldest building.

This coin is in pristine condition as shown in the photos.  The coin has a very low mintage of only 5,000 Worldwide.
