VCR cycles is delighted to bring to the market this 1980 Carlton Clubman 22.5” frame gents Reynolds 531 steel touring bike.

Going from a brief on-line research this model was bought as a frame only and then built up to the owners preferences/budget.

Frame number on BB shell is unusual as it starts as usual with prefix W for a Worksop built frame.

The second digit is a 0 so presumably 1980? Then it has a letter S stamped sideways round? The number then continues 002134

So: W0s002134 (please see last photo and any advice from the knowledgeable Carlton guys out there would be very much appreciated)

So the bike build is mix of mid range components.

The transmission is made up from the super reliable Suntour VX with a SR Silstar chainset. Chainset has 170mm arms and T rings.

A six speed Shimano block.

Wheels are Rigida Rush rims laced to Plessier hubs, these are shod with NOS period correct CST Super HP 25c tyres.

Braking comes from the proverbial Weinmann type 500 brakes.

Cockpit consists of a very nice Sturmey Archer girder type stem with a 80mm reach, a set of ITM Special bars with a 43cm width, these are wrapped with NOS period tape.

Saddle is a Italia T1 perched on an alloy seatpost and secured with the original “C” Carlton binder bolt.

Full length Bluemels Lighweight English made blue mudguards and a Bluemels frame fit pump complete this classic English Tourer.

Paint and decals are original and in good shape for 40 plus years.

Original supplier decal is still present but unfortunately not legible.

No dents or damage but it’s got chips, scuffs and paint touch ins as you’d expect for a 40 plus year old bicycle that’s been used and enjoyed.

It’s had new inner cables all round.

All bearings are smooth with no play and it all works and rides pretty nice! 👌

Test ride/inspection welcome prior to commitment to buy if your local enough to travel to the L25 postcode area of Liverpool.

As a small business trying to survive in a very turbulent and depressed market we feel the need to explain our one and only negative feedback we have ever received. This was left by far the most awkward obnoxious customer we have ever dealt with.

Please ignore his malicious feedback as it’s totally untrue and unwarranted.

Thanks for reading this and we hope we have been able to show our side of the situation and can continue to trade as a small business without our reputation/feedback being tarnished by “that one customer you wish you’d never sold to!”

Pick up from Liverpool L25 postcode or we can box and courier the bike to any UK mainland address for £35.

Please note this doesn’t include Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Guernsey or any parts of Ireland with a UK Postcode.
