The Order of Brotherhood and Unity was the SFRY's award in two degrees. 

The Order was established by Supreme Commander NOV and POJ Josip Broz Tito on August 15, 1943 with the Decree on Decorations in the National Liberation Struggle. 

Later, on June 9, 1945, the Presidency of AVNOJ passed the Law on Orders and Medals of the DFJ, according to which the Order receives two orders, I. and II. Since 1961, the Order of Brotherhood and Unity has been divided into:

Order of Brotherhood and Unity with a Golden Wreath - 12th in the order of importance of Yugoslav awards

Order of Fraternity and Unity with a silver wreath - 21st in the important sequence of Yugoslav decorations.

The award was given for "special merits in spreading fraternity among peoples and nationalities, in creating and developing the political and moral unity of the people".

The medal is made of silver with gold-plated parts.
