The Jupiter-8M was the new and improved version of the Jupiter-8 50 mm f/2 lens made by KMZ. Unlike this lens the Jupiter-8M has clicks stops for the the aperture setting ranging from f/2 to f/22. It was the standard lens for a number of Kiev rangefinder models.

The Jupiter-8 (sometimes marked in Cyrillic, ЮПИТЕР-8) is a postwar Soviet copy of the prewar Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f/2 for the Contax, built with six elements in three groups. It was made in Contax and M39 mounts, both for rangefinder cameras.
