Published in 1902 and sold only by subscription, Woman's Favorite Cook Book was promoted as "three books in one volume" with "over three thousand recipes and suggestions for the household and dozens of illustrations and color plates. First edition. Quarto, 9.75” x 7.25,” 610 pages including illustrations and index. In original boards with pictorial front cover, marbled edges. (Note: This is the scarce first edition and not the salesman sample more commonly sold.)

Book I is intended for the inexperienced housekeeper . Book II is devoted to various health foods, soups, and vegetable dishes. Book III is devoted to household economics, nursing the sick, the care of the kitchen, household remedies, etc.." With suggested menus for special holidays. With an essay, "The Subject of Carving" by A. Chabrison, Chef of the Grand Pacific Hotel, Chicago (formerly of the Union League Club, Chicago), with photographs. The recipe suppliers are identified by name.

The antique cook book is in Good condition. Does not contain any writing other than a gift inscription on title page page, no marks, no stamps or ex libris marks (quite scarce!). The spine is sound, the front joint and hinge are cracked and the front board is loose. Several pages are loose from the binding. Rubbed boards and edges. Pretty clean overall with some stains and areas of soiling both internally and externally. Age-toned pages. Offsetting on pages where some of the newspaper clippings were laid in. Ephemera is now inside a polypropylene bag that is included.
