Up for sale, a 1974 Gibson ES-335 TDW in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a modern hardshell case. A Walnut-finished example produced at Gibson's Kalamazoo, MI factory, this vintage ES-335 is 100% original save for a stoptail conversion.

With a semi-hollow maple body, three-piece mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard, this ES-335 is tonally authoritative when strummed acoustically, offering an articulate natural response channeled through the original pair of T Tops humbuckers. The pickups deliver a chiming, dynamic treble snap, midrange-rich growl, and low end that is fat yet clear. The tone has the airy and warm qualities of the guitar's semi-hollowbody construction, with the immediate attack and dynamic responsiveness of the body's solid center block and maple as a tonewood. This ES-335 TDW weighs 7lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, spot-on intonation and slinky action.

The three-piece mahogany neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with a gentle increase in additional heft further up the fretboard, measuring .790" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has pearloid small block inlay and original medium jumbo fretwire which has good meat remaining, exhibiting Gibson’s wide/flat fret dress of the era with light, uniform wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-7. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures just shy of 1 5/8” (but a hair wider than the usual 1 9/16”), and the headstock retains the original set of double line double ring Gibson Deluxe tuning machines.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the humbuckers have early Pat #-embossed baseplates and touched-up solder on the chrome covers. Hardware includes the original ABR-1 bridge, and the instrument has been covered to a (more desirable) stoptail configuration, with the small trapeze tailpiece mounting holes cleanly doweled and touched-up surrounding the rear strap button.  All plastic parts are very tidy including the original witch hat knobs and the multi-ply pickguard. The rectangular "Union-Made" Gibson label is also intact, visible through the F hole.

The Walnut gloss nitro lacquer finish exhibits buckle rash across the back, while the top presents extremely cleanly, with just a few additional minor finish scratches and nicks on the body as a whole. There is light palm wear through the gloss on much of the profile carve, with some very subtle texturing in the lacquer behind frets 14-15 from contact with a guitar stand.

A modern brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
