[Stereoscopic View]: Asbury Park, New Jersey Beach Scene

Author: STAUFFER, [William H.]
Title: [Stereoscopic View]: Asbury Park, New Jersey Beach Scene
Publication: Asbury Park, New Jersey: Stauffer, circa 1870-75?]

Description: Unbound. Stereoview card. Measuring 3½" x 7". "Stauffer, 21 Cookman Ave., Asbury Park, N. J." printed on the verso. Verso with an inked name ("A. J. Van Heusen, Amsterdam"), two penciled notes (both reading "View off [sic] Asbury Park"), and "No. 306," possibly a publisher's inventory number. Modest wear and soil, images irregularly trimmed (as issued) with light spotting, a bit of sunning on the verso, very good. According to a history of 19th Century New Jersey photographers by Gary Saretzky that was first published in *New Jersey History*, William H. Stauffer was active in Trenton and Asbury Park from the 1870s into the 1900s, although the format of this card leads us to believe this was made in the early years of the studio.
