VCR Cycles are delighted to bring to the market this rare Harry Quinn Gaucho OR model 1990 All Terrain Bike.

Harry Quinn is a name you would associate with high end lightweight road bikes but when Harry returned to frame building after his move to Wales he, like most other frame builders dipped his toe in the late 80’s early 90’s booming market of mountain bikes.

He produced a small range of frames that were built up to the customer’s specifications.

These frames are not to be confused with the crap frames built by Falcon using the Harry Quinn name after Harry first retired. These ATB frames were handbuilt in Wales by Harry and his son and I believe Bill Whicomb lent a hand too.

This rare example has survived in remarkable condition considering it’s over 30 years old.

The frame & forks is made from Columbus Cromor OR steel tubes and he even handbrazed a matching stem from the same Columbus steel and used a cable stop, BB cable guide and 2 x seat post lugs to enable it to be used with Canti brakes.

The frame is free from any dents or damage and the metallic dark grey paint with silver flecks is in very nice condition. It’s got the odd scuff/scab etc as you’d expect but considering it’s over 30 years since it was painted it’s in very good shape.

The bike is kitted out with a Sachs Aris Rival 7000 groupset to include:

Triple chainset 26 36 46t

Rear long cage mech

Front triple mech

Hubs/skewers

7 speed cassette

The brakes have been swapped out or could have fitted from new? to Shimano V brakes and the shifters are also Shimano STX MC40 models.

All gears and brakes are working perfectly and shift seamlessly.

The frames were marketed as ATB (all terrain bike) rather than an MTB.

This one has been fitted with a rear pannier rack, semi slick Bontrager Comfort 1.95 tyres and full length SKS mudguards so it’s well suited for long comfortable touring rides or commuting as opposed to riding down the side of a mountain.!

The bike has been recently serviced with all new inner cables.

The bearings have all been striped out, cleaned and re-packed with fresh grease.

Both wheels have been trued and tensioned.

If I’m being picky..the front hub is slightly rumbly due to the cups having slight rust pitting with being stood up unused for many years. There’s no play and you don’t feel it when riding, it’s only noticeable if you remove the wheel and turn by hand so certainly not an issue.

Everything else is spot on.

The frame is 19” from the centre of the BB to the top of the seat tube or 18” to the top of the top tube (best to give both measurements to avoid any confusion).

Centre of the seat tube to the centre of the head tube is 21.5”.

A very rare handbuilt ATB made by one of the best names in the business.

If your a Harry Quinn enthusiast then why not add a heavy duty workhorse to your collection for those winter days when you can’t take the lightweights out!
