Stuart "Stu" Shepard is a young, third-rate manager who does everything he can to seem important to those around him, based on an endless series of lies and subterfuge. Every day he goes to the same one phone box in the heart of Manhattan to call Pam, a young provincial girl who has come to town to try her hand at being an actress: Stu has made great promises to her but in reality he would only like to embark on an extramarital affair with her, without his wife KELLY 's knowledge. At the end of the call Stu is about to leave, but suddenly hears the phone ringing; intrigued, he replies: on the other end of the phone there is a deranged man armed with a sniper rifle who tells him to keep the booth under fire from a nearby building and who threatens to kill him if he hangs up and leaves. The stranger knows a lot about Stu, including the fact that he wants to cheat on his wife, and asks him to come clean to both her and Pam. The killer proves he is serious by killing a man near the cabin, but cleverly manages to make the murder appear to be Stu's fault. The killer's psychological game also continues with the arrival of the police, the media, KELLY and Pam. | |
