Bertram and His Fabulous Animals by Paul T. Gilbert, illustrated by Minnie H. Rousseff and Barbara Maynard, published by Rand McNally and Company in 1937, 1st Edition, hardcover (no dust jacket).

The book has beige pages from age; tan end papers (see photo 6); a child's name in pencil in the front (see photo 6); and brown age spots, crimped lower corner and a light gray stain in the upper corner throughout the book (see photos 7-12).  The cover has heavy wear, white spots, puncture mark, color loss and staining (see photos 1-5).

What child doesn't dream of bringing a dragon or hatching a dinosaur from its egg?  Lucky for Bertram, fabulous creatures just keep cropping up in his neighborhood.  Unlucky for Bertram, the adventures don't always go as planned and sometimes it takes the whole family to unravel the chaos.  Illustrations by Minnie H. Rousseff and Barbara Maynard bring to life a dragon, squeazle-weasel, anting-anting, mermaid, miki-miki, and many more, in this timeless tale of childhood and imagination.
