In the early 1990's Psl compiled monthly Shareware CD-ROMs which contained thousands of Shareware and freeware programs for DOS, Windows, and OS2 . These were very popular and allowed programmers a venue to distribute their programs on a try before you buy format. They were also very popular with people who were looking for programs to accomplish certain tasks or try new programming Os or see open code ect. So each CD-Rom contains thousand of programs. These are very old and may not work on a newer operating system. Remember they were developed to work on Operating systems of the early 1990's. I used to own a computer store and we distributed these to our customers and they have a huge resource for people who want to view what was available at the start of the computer era.
These would be great for collectors or programmers looking for info on early programs.
Below are from the PsL CD Roms
Each monthly issue contains shareware programs for DOS, Windows, and OS/2 within a particular monthly theme, e.g. business or education software, games and music programs, word processing and graphics applications, communications, internet, and networking software, etc.
About Shareware
Shareware is an exciting marketing method which allows you to try top-quality
software before you pay the author. With Shareware, you cannot be disappointed
spending money for a program that's not right for you. The small fee you
pay to us for a CD-ROM covers only our costs in producing the CD and permits
you to evaluate thousands of shareware programs. If you continue to use
a shareware program, you must send the author an additional payment which
may entitle you to technical support, printed manuals, bonus programs,
and more. Your payment supports authors, allowing them to continue writing
newer and better shareware software.
