Our client's fabulous jardiniere or floor vase in the neoclassical style dates from the late 19th century and measures an impressive 44 1/2 inches tall.  Very likely by Eugene Cornu (1827-1899), the celebrated metalsmith and artist known for his work with Algerian onyx and bronze. It features an onyx vase with gilt bronze mounts including reticulated handles, gadrooned rim, wide band with rocaille and neoclassical masks, and narrower band below the shoulder with guilloche motif.  It is mounted on a pedestal raised by four cherub monopods with ram heads at their feet, mounted to a square, stepped onyx base with bracketed bronze feet.

Its condition is excellent.  There is beige filler in a restoration to the corner of the onyx base, scratches, scuffs and minor chip losses to the edges of the onyx. With its original gilded surfaces, cleaned precisely in recent times.  There are scattered areas of verdigris, consistent with age.
