Vintage 1988 Pearl Soprano
All Maple Shell Snare Drum in Liquid Amber
I have developed an unfortunate habit of amassing too many snare
drums (not an uncommon crime amongst drummers)! Pressure to free up some house
space coupled with the fact that I can’t find much time to play anymore, means
I have to slim down my collection.
They don’t make them
like they used to :-D
This is a fabulously
powerful 12” diameter, 7” deep snare drum which I used with my Pearl MLX Drum
Kit during the late 80s. The MLX was a mid to high end maple kit at the time,
and all the drums were in matching lacquered liquid amber finish (happy days).
The bass and toms were sold many moons ago, but I kept the snare because it is
a classy 8 ply all maple drum with a real kick.
The drum is showing signs of age – after all it is nearly 40
years old. The nut boxes, throw off and hoops are showing some light pitting
but this would clean up well if you have the time to strip it all down and
clean/polish everything. The Remo Weatherking batter head is in fine condition
with plenty of life left in it. The throw off works perfectly. The resonant
head has a tiny hole in it (pictured) so eventually you might want to replace
that. Apologies but all my spare heads are 14”.
These drums are
getting rarer nowadays so this is your chance to get hold of a classic.
The drum is sold with a robust 12” Le Blond case which is from
the same era. The handle is solid and working perfectly as are the webbing
strap and quick release clasp. You would be lucky to buy a drum case of this
sturdiness for less than about 50 quid so the asking price is good value for
the drum and case combined.
We’re always happy for
you to collect eBay items if you are local and you want to save on postage. We
will post within 4-5 working days of payment clearing using Hermes (which
changed its name to Evri). This service usually takes 2 to 3 days for UK addresses.
Please have
patience with me regarding delivery time as I work away quite a bit and have to
get my son’s assistance with posting. That said, I’ve put additional padding in
the flight case, so we just need to put a label on it and its ready to send out.
