Designer Ehlén Johansson started her journey at IKEA in 1984, and spent 30 years designing some now-familiar IKEA products, known for their simplicity and their ability to stand out – often with a touch of humour. In the 1990s, the BJÖRKVALLA series in timeless Scandinavian style was a bestseller. Her meandering tealight holder IKEA PS 1999 became an immediate classic. She embraces democratic design that is smart and functional also in production: “If the ideas don’t work industrially, then the solution isn’t good enough!” (IKEA The Book 2010).
