Many customers are surprised by how light SSDs feel in comparison to the HDDs they replace. Our SSDs weigh less than half (about 1.4 oz/40g) that of the average 2.5" PATA/IDE drive (about 3.4 oz/95g).
Please note that the model, part, and/or serial numbers will vary from those of the listing images. SSDs will be pre-formatted to NTFS with the MBR partitioning scheme for maximum compatibility with Windows- and Linux-based systems.

Our PATA/IDE SSDs are compatible with devices which support the 44-pin PATA/IDE interface. This mainly includes older laptops, such as most laptops produced from the late 1990s until 2007, and some produced between 2008 to 2010. However, the majority of laptops produced after 2008 utilize the SATA interface rather than the PATA/IDE interface and are unlikely to support these SSDs.
You may find a maximum supported storage drive size stated in your device's documentation. While testing our drives with typical PATA/IDE-supporting laptops produced between 2004 to 2007, we found that this limit is often inaccurate. For example, the documentation may state 120GB as the laptop's maximum supported storage capacity, while a 256GB SSD is supported in the same laptop with no adverse effects.
Expected Speeds
The PATA interface is limited to a theoretical maximum read and write speed of 100 MB/s (megabytes per second). Typical PATA HDDs (hard drive disks) in early- to mid-2000s laptops achieve average read and write speeds of around 25 MB/s. Our SSDs (solid state drives) typically achieve read and write speeds of just under 90 MB/s in such systems -- close to the 100 MB/s limit.
Some factors can cause reduced performance:
- Some systems have logical block addressing (LBA) limitations which can reduce the amount of recognized disk space. In this case, the system may report a disk read error on boot.
- Running an operating system unsupported by hardware can lead to system hang/lag and reduce read and write speeds.
- Older motherboards (typically those made before 2000) can limit transfer rates below the stated benchmarks.
