Published between 1966 - 1969 by the Minnesota Historical Society. All volumes are second editions. Vol 1 is a 2nd/2nd printing. The other volumes are first printings. In original cloth boards and dust jackets. Octavo, 9” x 5.5”, several thousand pages of history. Hundreds of black and white illustrations and photographs.

Volume 1 covers Minnesota's early development from the days of French exploration and trade with American Indians through territorial times to the eve of statehood in 1857. Volume 2 continues the story from 1858 to 1865, with emphasis on the state's participation in the Civil War and the Sioux Uprising (Dakota Conflict) of 1862. Volume 3 completes the chronological record with a comprehensive picture of Minnesota politics from 1865 to 1925. Volume 4 focuses on special topics such as iron mining, public education, the Chippewa (Ojibway), election procedures, and a dozen outstanding Minnesotans. Includes a consolidated index to Volumes 1-4.

All four books are on VG+ to FINE condition, with volumes 3 and 4 having a few bumped corners. Minimal rubbing and edge wear, age-toned edges, colorful and clean boards, tight bindings, clean interiors with bright pages and no writing or wear.

The dust jackets are all in GOOD- to VERY GOOD condition. Unclipped. Sun-toned with sun-darkened spines and edges. Sticker stains on front cover of each volume. Edge wear chopping, creasing by and tears. Light dust soiling. Volume I has more soiling and wear than the other volumes. Its panels, tearing along the joints, are reinforced with tape adhered to both spine panels. Blind side of all jackets darkened with book offsetting.
