All Dunoon teapots are made of beautifully decorated fine English bone china. Vibrant colors, wonderful glazes, meticulous attention to detail combined with the best of raw materials and the experience and skill to know what to do with this richness produces the great tea pots you see here. What exactly is bone china and why is it so desirable? The clay used for making china items often has deposits of bone in it, usually cow bones. When this clay contains at least 30% but up to 40 - 45% bone material, then what is called bone china can be made. The reason this is so desirable is because bone china is stronger and more durable than other china. It is more suited to dinnerware and the like. Besides the durability and strength, bone ash also increases the translucence in an item. This in turn increases the beauty, independent of painting or decoration. We all have heard that tea and/or coffee never tastes as good as it does when served in bone china, particularly English bone china, and it's true. We don't know why, perhaps it is psychological as some suggest, or perhaps there really is something about the high quality of the vessel that affects the taste of the contents, bringing out every nuance of flavor. In any case, when you taste the tea you make in your Dunoon English bone china teapot, prepare yourself for a wonderful experience.
