FRANCE Virgin Mary PLIQUE A JOUR 18K Gold Medal STAINED GLASS - CATHOLIC 

This vintage 18k yellow gold medal from France features a beautiful PLIQUE A JOUR stained glass design of the Virgin Mary. The intricate handmade detailing and use of multicolor glass make this pendant a unique and special piece of fine jewelry. 

This is a beautiful Plique a Jour 18k Catholic Medal made in France.  It is an art deco design, and was made during the art deco era, but engraved and given as a gift in 1952.

(Remember, WW2 was only a few years before...) 

The engraving reads "M.del CPA 19 VI '52" 

possibly in honor of a Masters in Certified Public Accounting, June 19, 1952.

When the light shines through the plique de jour stained glass, a riot of colors is exposed, blues, greens, reds and yellows, reminding me of the beautiful windows at Chatres and Notre Dame in Paris.  

This metal was lovingly, worn for many years, and the gold is rubbed smooth a bit.

The plique a jour glass inserts are in great condition, and really the star of the show.

-set with a tiny natural pearl 1.5mm

-2 French hallmarks for 18k on bail

 (French 18 karat jewellery stamped with the eagle’s head guarantee mark or the owl import mark for 18 karat gold may actually be between 17.35k-19k)
