Lovely pastoral watercolour 'possibly by Peter le Cave'
Man with dog and cow in front of cottages.
One of 4 from the same set that I have for sale.

Ex. Abbott and Holder, the well known London picture dealer.
Very much in the style of Peter La Cave; I've owned a number of fully attributed watercolours by him over the years.

Mounted, framed and glazed
Picture is 12cm wide and 8.5cm high, in a frame 29cm wide and 26.5cm high
.
Unfaded and unfoxed, although paper has yellowed slightly with age, but in generally excellent condition for a painting over 200 years old.

Sadly, a house move and also probate means disposal of much of my collection, built up over 45 years.

Peter La Cave (fl. 1769-1816)
Also know as Peter Le Cave, little is known of his life, although it is likely that he was a member of a French family of artists working in the Netherlands.
La Cave was in England from at least 1789-1816, painting in various parts of the country including Worcestershire, Berkshire and Devon.
La Cave was a friend to Julius Ibbetson (1759-1817), whose work closely resembles his, and may well have been an assistant to George Morland (1763-1804).
Examples of his work are in the British, V&A and Fitzwilliam museums.
